With less than three weeks until Christmas, the Dogs Trust is on a mission to find the dogs in its care the one gift they all want – a home for life.
The Dogs Trust penned the famous phrase “A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas” back in 1978, and they are looking for people to share their Christmas and their life with a pooch this festive season.
Big-hearted potential dog owners will be happy to adopt a pet that is looking for a new forever home after perhaps not having the best start in life.
To see if you’re a potential match, just fill in an application form here with all your details and let the Dogs Tust match you up with a suitable pet.
They’ll then look at how closely your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and, if you’re a great fit for your selected animal, they’ll invite you to meet your prospective pup.
They may also organise a home check to make sure it’s suitable for your new family member.
You can also pop into the rehoming centre before submitting the application to see the dogs beforehand.
Here are 13 of the dogs currently looking for a home.

9. Barnaby
Barnaby is a 1 year old Crossbreed looking for a family to entertain. He has the best puppy dog eyes that can literally lull you in to doing anything for him. Whilst he loves every and any toy, his favourite is a squeaky ball. A never ending game of fetch in your garden would be his favourite part of the day! This would of course be followed by a snuggle on the sofa, and his sweet spot is a scratch behind his ears as he drapes himself over you like a blanket. Barnaby is shy to start with, but if you are happy to come and meet him a few times armed with squeezy cheese, a deep friendship will soon evolve. Barnaby would love to find a quiet and calm home with little coming and going. He would be best suited to have fewer members in the home, but he could possibly live with secondary school aged children. Barnaby loves his walks and is keen to get going. Whilst he hasn`t quite mastered the art of walking by your side, he is ready and willing to learn with you. | Dogs Trust

10. Cain
Cain is a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd cross. He can be on the shyer side at first but once you are friends, his cheeky personality starts to come out! With his best human friends he loves a chin scratch, he is also a big foodie and loves his treats! Cain is a sweet but sensitive boy who can be shy of new people and situations. He would benefit from having a home with adult only owners who have had experience with worried dogs before and are willing to go at his pace to help build his confidence when exploring new things. Cain enjoys his walks and would prefer to walk in lovely quiet areas where he can relax. He is happy to meet other dogs when on walks, and could potentially live with a similar sized confident dog pending a successful pair up at the centre. As Cain can be shy to begin with and can take a while to come out of his shell, he would love for any family to come and meet him a few times before he is ready to pack up his big yellow bag! Cain is the sweetest boy and would love a family that can help him flourish in his forever home. | Dogs Trust

Stella can be overwhelmed in new areas when seeing people she does not know. Stella adores spending time playing in the garden especially with her rope toys! Stella would prefer to walk in quiet areas where she can relax and enjoy her walks, she is great in the car and happy to jump in. Stella is looking for a quiet home with children over 16 and no other pets. | Dogs Trust

12. Cooper
Cooper is a 3-year-old Miniature Dachshund. Super Cooper is an active little guy and makes the best adventure buddy! He adores his walks and never fails to put his nose to good use. Sniffing and snuffling along any terrain is his superpower! Cooper is a total water baby and enjoys a splash in the stream or a stroll along the beach. Afterwards, he will fly up on the sofa with you for lots of snuggles and to do some sausage roly-poly's! Another one of Cooper's superpowers is that he has exceptional hearing, he will never fail to let you know that the doorbell has gone by giving out a bark or two! Cooper can be a little shy to begin with and can take a while to come out of his shell, he would love for any family to come and meet him a few times before he is ready to pack his bags, jump in your car and start his next adventure! Cooper is looking to be the only pet in an adult only home. | Dogs Trust
