With less than three weeks until Christmas, the Dogs Trust is on a mission to find the dogs in its care the one gift they all want – a home for life.
The Dogs Trust penned the famous phrase “A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas” back in 1978, and they are looking for people to share their Christmas and their life with a pooch this festive season.
Big-hearted potential dog owners will be happy to adopt a pet that is looking for a new forever home after perhaps not having the best start in life.
To see if you’re a potential match, just fill in an application form here with all your details and let the Dogs Tust match you up with a suitable pet.
They’ll then look at how closely your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and, if you’re a great fit for your selected animal, they’ll invite you to meet your prospective pup.
They may also organise a home check to make sure it’s suitable for your new family member.
You can also pop into the rehoming centre before submitting the application to see the dogs beforehand.
Here are 13 of the dogs currently looking for a home.

1. Skyla
Sweet Skyla is an 11 year old French Bulldog looking for a quiet, understanding home. Skyla enjoys pottering on her walks and her home comforts. Skyla can be a bit worried sometimes and may decide that she would just like to spend her day in the garden instead of a walk. Therefore, she would love a family who have their own garden where she can potter when she chooses. Being an older girl, Skyla prefers the more peaceful side to life and is looking for a home with older secondary school children and no other pets. She enjoys doing her own thing and does not show any interest in saying hello to other dogs, usually just ignoring them. Skyla loves her snacks and her favourite treat is squeezy cheese. She is a sweet girl who would be a great addition to a family looking for a little girl to keep them company around the house. | Dogs Trust

2. Scampi
Scampi is a 7 year old Patterdale Terrier cross looking for a loving home. Scampi is a worried little lad to start with but when he gets to know you he is sweet and cheeky. Scampi is looking for a quiet experienced adult only home with no other pets and an enclosed garden. He would prefer to have someone at home with him most of the time to help him settle in. Scampi is a playful lad who loves his favourite giant caterpillar toy. Scampi travels well in the car and enjoys going out on walks in areas where he doesn't have to worry too much about being approached by off lead dogs. Scampi would like his own armchair in the home for him to relax in as his own space is important for him. | Dogs Trust

3. Hercules
Hercules is an affectionate and lively 11-year-old King Charles Spaniel who loves attention and being around people. Hercules has a fun, cheeky personality and enjoys following his people around to see what’s happening. He loves fuss, affection, and being part of family life. He’ll happily explore the garden, go for gentle walks, and then curl up on the sofa for a snooze. Hercules is friendly, social, and full of character. He’d prefer a calm, relaxed home without young children or other pets, and with someone around for much of the day. He enjoys routine, human company, and plenty of affection. | Dogs Trust

4. Gabriel
Gabriel is a gentle and affectionate 8-year-old King Charles Spaniel. This charming boy loves pottering around the garden and snuggling up for a cosy nap. Gabriel has a sweet, easy-going nature and enjoys affection and quiet companionship. He is friendly with people and other dogs and travels well in the car. He is looking for a home without young children or other pets, where someone is around for most of the day. A gentle routine, comfortable space to rest, and plenty of attention will help him feel right at home. In return, he’ll bring warmth, love, and plenty of smiles. | Dogs Trust
