It’s only been a few days since a procession of drenched athletes sailed down the Seine as the official Opening Ceremony got the Paris Olympics underway in torrential rain - but we’ve already been treated to plenty of magical moments and intriguing subplots.
These are the happenings that have had social media buzzing and filled the front pages of newspapers.
From remarkable athletic achievement and world famous celebs, to amusing incidents and sporting skullduggery, these Games have had it all.
Here are 10 of the most memorable Olympic moments so far - and there’s plenty more to come.

5. Biles back to her best
A mental block meant that American gymnast Simone Biles was forced to pull out of several events in the last Games in Tokyo - a reminder that even a born winner with 27 world and Olympic medals can suffer from anxiety. If there were any questions about her ability to cope with the immense pressures of competition, she soon answered them by blowing away her rivals in qualifying, posting an overall score that would have won the last three World Championships. Biles' sheer joy at being back to her best was plain for all to see. She will now attempt to take home four gold medals - after qualifying for the team, all-around, vault, floor and beam final - but is already a winner. | Getty Images

6. An unlikely hero
When the women's 100m breaststroke heats had to be halted due to an object spotted floating in the middle of the pool, an offical came to the rescue, stripping down to his trunks to dive in and retrieve what turned out to be a swimming cap. In an arena populated by perfectly-toned torsos, his 'dad bod' prompted wolf whistles and cheers. By the time he emerged from the pool he had earned an ovation from the crowd, waving his farewell after an unexpected moment in the spotlight. | Eurosport

7. Retirement can wait
It looked to all be over for Andy Murray, partnering Dan Evans in the men's doubles in his final competitive tournament before retiring. The British duo were trailing 2-6, 2-4 and were a double-break down against Kei Nishikori and Taro Daniel - who needed just two more games for victory. That they came back to level the match was extraordinary enough, but the best was yet to come. In the deciding 10-point match tie-break they trailed 4-9 and faced five set points, only to power through seven consecutive points to victory. Murray appeared so happy you could be fooled into thinking he'd just won the gold medal, Wimbledon and Sports Personality of the Year - all at the same time. | Getty Images

8. A gold medal for apologies
Italian high-jumper Gianmarco Tamberi's joy at being the flag bearer for his country in the Opening Ceremony turned into horror as he saw his wedding ring slip off his finger and sink to the bottom of the Seine. His apology to his wife posted on social media went viral after he explained "I felt it slip away, I saw it fly...I followed it with my gaze until I saw it bounce inside the boat. A tinkle of hope...but unfortunately the bounce was in the wrong direction.” He then managed to turn lemons into lemonade by putting an imaginative romantic spin on the loss, saying: "If it really had to happen...I couldn’t imagine a better place. It will remain forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I was trying to raise the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world."
