It has been over years since Rangers confirmed the appointment of former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, all the way back in 2018. But could he be set to make a sensational return to Ibrox?
The last Gers boss to win the Scottish Premiership trophy in Govan has emerged as one of the leading contenders to be the next Rangers boss following the sacking of Russell Martin on Sunday evening.
His stint in charge of Rangers largely successful, Gerrard’s first summer transfer window saw him recruit the likes of Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and, perhaps less memorably, George Edmundson. In total, there were 42 players who came through the doors at Ibrox during his reign - but who offered Rangers the most?
Here we rank all 42 Rangers players signed by Gerrard from worst to best and ask - where are they now?

33. Glen Kamara
While he perhaps stayed at the club longer than he should have, Kamara is pound for pound one of Gerrard's best signings. Costing just £50k from Dundee, the Finnish midfielder won four trophies with Rangers and scored a memorable goal in the 3-1 Europa League semi-final win over Leipzig in 2022. Currently out of favour with French club Rennes, he's represented both Leeds United and Al-Shabab since his Ibrox departure. | Ian MacNicol Photo: Ian MacNicol

34. Kemar Roofe
When fit, Roofe was often the Gers' best striker throughout his time at Ibrox. He scored some memorable goals for the club, but ultimately saw a very promising Rangers career destroyed by injuries. 35. Jermain Defoe
Arriving at the club from Bournemouth at the back end of his career, the legendary striker embraced everything about the club during his spell at Ibrox. Won his one and only league title during his time in Glasgow, scoring 25 league goals across his four seasons at Rangers. Now retired, he is currently looking for his next coaching role after departing his role at Tottenham Hotspur under-18s. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

36. Allan McGregor
Already a Rangers favourite when he returned to the club for his second spell in 2018, the ex-Scotland international won the Scottish Premiership Player of the Year award in 2021. He back the years with some outstanding performances in the run to the Europa League final. Returned to Ibrox for a third time last season, joining the club as an interim goalkeeping coach. Now seen regularly as a TV pundit. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images
