Scotland began their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Denmark in Copenhagen.
Steve Clarke’s side put in a dogged and disciplined performance against the Group C top seeds at the Parken Stadion - and created a few moments of note of their own in what could prove to be a precious point in the quest to make the tournament in the Americas next summer.
In a match of few chances, Scotland defended resolutely, with the biggest scare coming when sub Max Johnston survived a VAR check for a red card just moments after coming on.
The draw against the Danes will give Scotland great heart as they head to Hungary next to face Belarus behind closed doors at the ZTE Arena. They lost their opening match 5-1 away to Greece in Piraeus.
We give each player a mark out of ten for their performance against the Danes in Copenhagen.

5. Andy Robertson
The captain has not started this season for Liverpool but class is permanent. Now such an experienced player, Robertson patrolled his left flank very well. Was fairly quiet in an attacking sense in the first half but as the match wore on, he put in some tantalising crosses into the penalty box, but nobody on the end to put them in. 8 | PA

6. John McGinn
Stationed in a fairly unfamiliar right-wing position, McGinn's main powers of strength and determination were not diminished. Drew an early yellow card from Denmark captain Hojbjerg and had a presentable chance at the back post from a 19th-minute corner. Saw an early second-half effort crucially blocked by Maehle. Never, ever stopped going. 8 | PA

7. Scott McTominay
Asked to play a slightly deeper role than he does at Napoli, the midfielder started the game sluggishly, at times too easily dispossessed. Grew into it as the game wore on and saw a low shot blocked by Schmeichel when perhaps a cross was a better option after a lovely bit of dribbling. Not his night - but it will come again. 6 | PA

8. Lewis Ferguson
Back in the starting XI for a competitive Scotland game, Ferguson was asked to play a specific defensive role. The Bologna man was constantly aggressive - he was eventually booked for one too many tackles - but his tenacity was key in stifling the Danes. An important cog in the Scotland midfield. 8 | Ritzau Scanpix/AFP via Getty Ima
