Scotland’s Festival of Light officially kicks off in Aberdeen this evening, with the annual event set to warm the cold February nights.
The 2026 edition of Spectra Aberdeen will see the city illuminated by everything from fire-filled sculptures and giant blooming flowers, to thoughtful hand crafted lanterns and immersive light installations.
Hoping to encourage visitors to “be curious” – this year’s theme – Spectra will be open from 5.30pm to 10pm daily until Sunday, February 8.
Whether you are planning on heading into the city to enjoy a meal before Spectra opens, or you’re hoping to stop for a warming drink or snack along the way, we can help. Here are 14 of the best places to visit for food and drink during Spectra Aberdeen 2026.

13. Maggie’s Grill — 2 Marischal Square, Broad Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1BL
The perfect place to stop before heading out and exploring Spectra, Maggie’s Grill serves soul food in the heart of Aberdeen. With big portions and warming dishes, you can enjoy something to eat then step out to explore one of the three displays located on either side of the restaurant. | The Scotsman

14. Mai’s Vietnamese Kitchen — 12B Back Wynd, Aberdeen, AB10 1JN
Mai’s Vietnamese Kitchen has been gathering rave reviews since it opened last year, and it is perfectly located for Spectra. Nestled on Back Wynd across from St Nicholas Kirkyard, where several of this year’s displays can be found, this small restaurant is sure to be busy with its offerings including fried spring rolls, noodles and warming bowls of pho. | The Scotsman

15. Ninety-Nine — 1 Back Wynd, Aberdeen, AB10 1JN
Closer to Union Street, Back Wynd is also home to Ninety-Nine. Having closed for some refurbishments in January, the cosy bar reopened in plenty of time for the festival. Over Spectra, Ninety-Nine will be serving up their usual offerings as well as reopening The Hatch, which visitors can stop by for hot drinks, food and treats. | The Scotsman
