Scotland’s Festival of Light officially kicks off in Aberdeen this evening, with the annual event set to warm the cold February nights.
The 2026 edition of Spectra Aberdeen will see the city illuminated by everything from fire-filled sculptures and giant blooming flowers, to thoughtful hand crafted lanterns and immersive light installations.
Hoping to encourage visitors to “be curious” – this year’s theme – Spectra will be open from 5.30pm to 10pm daily until Sunday, February 8.
Whether you are planning on heading into the city to enjoy a meal before Spectra opens, or you’re hoping to stop for a warming drink or snack along the way, we can help. Here are 14 of the best places to visit for food and drink during Spectra Aberdeen 2026.

9. The Pig’s Wings — 22 Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen, AB10 1BA
Small but mighty, The Pig’s Wings is another excellent place to consider visiting for dinner during Spectra. Located on Upperkirkgate, the restaurant is known for its delicious food, including pork rolls, burgers and loaded fries, and it’s sure to fill up quickly throughout the festival even with doors opening early at 4pm. | The Scotsman

10. Mount — 6 Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen, AB10 1BA
With Spectra taking place in February, no matter how well prepared you are the weather is probably going to be slightly unpleasant. But there’s no need to worry, as you will find plenty of hot drink and snacks available at Mount on Upperkirkgate, which is extending its opening hours until 8pm to help keep festivalgoers warm. | The Scotsman

11. Upperkrust — 44-46 Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen, AB10 1BA
Slightly along from Mount, Upperkrust will be staying open until 10pm for Spectra this year, offering customers the chance to pop in for items such as stovies and macaroni, as well as a variety of sweet treats including cupcakes. In celebration, expect staff to be donning their very best fancy dress. | The Scotsman

12. Mackie's 19.2 — 7 Marischal Square, Broad St, Aberdeen, AB10 1BL
With one of the Nocturnal animals nesting right outside of the store, Mackie’s 19.2 are joining in on the festival fun with a special glow in the dark ice cream. However, if cold food isn’t to your taste then you can enjoy hot drinks and waffles instead. | The Scotsman
