Greg James has smashed Radio 1 records, raising more than £4 million for Comic Relief.

Greg James raised more than £3 million for Comic Relief following his massive 1,000km tandem bike challenge for Comic Relief.

The Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter set off from Weymouth for the mammoth eight day journey last Friday, with the aim of reaching Edinburgh today, Red Nose Day (March 20).

James arrived at the Murrayfield Stadium finish line at around 10.30am this morning after breaking records for money raised by Radio 1 for Comic Relief, across the station’s many years of fundraising.

Having travelled through three countries and with thousands of fans waiting for him at the finish line in Edinburgh, James was finally told exactly how much money he raised.

How much money has Greg James raised?

In total, Greg James has raised more than £4 million for Comic Relief.

During his cycle from Galashiels this morning, James had asked for listeners to help him raise £3 million. At a certain point of the Breakfast Show, presenters Matt Edmondson and Mollie King asked James to stop listening so the total raised would be a surprise.

After it had been confirmed that he reached that figure, Edmondson and King then upped the ante and asked listeners to help them reach £3.5 million in donations. Ahead of the reveal just after 11am, James told them that his “wildest dream” was to have raised £3 million.

He was then told that his efforts had helped raise a total of £4,041,910, which is still climbing.

Hearing the news, James said: “For £4 million I’d do anything. I can’t tell you what good that will do.”

He then shared his thanks for everyone who had supported him along the way, from those who cheered him on along the way to colleagues at Radio 1, friends, family and beyond.
