Scotland serves up its six best food events this September

From a cocktail week to foraging masterclasses, here’s our round-up
TERRAZZA PATATINO
We refuse to give up on summer yet, so we’re visiting four-star Edinburgh hotel The Hoxton’s terrace, in collaboration with Hendrick’s and Villa Sandi. This al-fresco spot is open until October, and they’re serving a menu of drinks and snacks, with the signature cocktail that is the rose sgroppino containing Another Hendrick’s, raspberry sorbet, cacao blanc and Villa Sandi Prosecco Rose DOC. Food-wise, expect fried spaghetti with bechamel cream and courgette, and arancini with spicy ragu, haggis and herb emulsion, among other goodies. If it’s raining, they've also launched a permanent new Brunchatino menu on Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4pm with dishes including eggs and ‘nduja on sourdough with aubergine caviar and salsa verde. For £45, you can have any small plate, a large plate and two cocktails.

INVERARY CASTLE
Bring an appetite to this castle’s grounds, on the shores of Loch Fyne, where there will be around 50 stalls in operation as part of their Arts, Crafts, Food and Drink Market on September 12 and 13, admission £2.50. Apparently, we can expect cheese, rum, gin and confectionery, as far as stalls go. There will also be street food from Henderson’s Fine Foods who will be dishing out hog roast on brioche rolls, Dumpling Mama’s gyoza wares, and crayfish rolls and other delights from the Highland Food Shack.
SCHLOSS ROXBURGHE
There are some doubly delicious things coming out of the kitchen at five-star Kelso hotel, Schloss Roxburghe, thanks to its Guest Chef Series. The next incomer to team up with their resident head chef, Dan Ashmore, is the head chef at Àclèaf in Devon, Luke Fearon, whose cooking is grounded in seasonality and provenance. Their dinner takes place on September 25, and tickets are £110pp for a multi-course tasting menu, Champagne reception and an optional wine pairing for an additional £55pp.

GLASGOW COCKTAIL WEEK
Celebrate the art of muddling at this event, which takes place from Thursday September 24 to Sunday October 4. Buy a wristband for £8, and you can try exclusive specially designed drinks at 70 top venues including Porter & Rye, Sebb’s, The Absent Ear and Five March. You can also take part in various workshops, including a Patron Presents Margarita Masterclass at Vega on September 26 or October 3 for £10pp.
ATHOLL ESTATES
Brambles are starting to look chubbier and less anaemic, so it’s the perfect time of year to join an autumn foraging experience in the grounds of Blair Castle. They’re running two sessions on September 19 and 20, from 10.30am until 1.30pm, for £45pp (children go free). These will be led by resident expert, Tamara Colchester, who will move through various forms of habitat, from meadow to woodland, and showcase 20 medicinal and edible plants, herbs and fungi found on the estate. These workshops will conclude with wild tea and biscuits in the charming Hercules’ Garden.
HEBRIDEAN WHISKY FESTIVAL
September is the month for island-hopping and dram quaffing, as this festival runs from September 5 until the 12th. There will be tasting, workshops, ceilidhs, food pairings and open days at destinations including Benbecula Distillery, Isle of Harris Distillery and Tobermory Distillery, with the Festival Finale at the Isle of Raasay distillery on the last day from 11am until 6pm. The last event will feature food from Cafe Cuil, pizza, live music, discussions, tours and the chance to buy their special Hebridean Whisky Cask 2026 release. Tickets from £10.
