The climb has been described as a “two-hour event” by the streaming service. It is set to start at 1am GMT on Saturday for watchers tuning in from the UK. You may end up bleary eyed if you watch it as it happens.

For viewers in America, coverage is set to begin at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT - while it will start at 2am CEST in Europe. The time in Taiwan will be 9am in the morning, as it is eight hours ahead of the UK.

Which skyscraper is he trying to climb?

Free Solo star Alex Honnold will be swapping granite walls for a skyscraper when he attempts to scale Taipei 101 in Taiwan this weekend. It previously held the record for being the tallest building in the world from 2004 to 2009, but has since been dethroned.

Stretching to a massive 1,667 feet of glass, steel, and concrete, Alex will try to climb all 101 floors without rope. It includes a 67 floor section he calls the “bamboo boxes”.

Speaking to Netflix, he said: “Taipei 101 because it’s amazing and it’s an incredible building. It’s possible, which a lot of skyscrapers aren’t — it’s uniquely suited for climbing.

“Now, because it’s really hard to get permission to climb a building and I have permission, I have to take advantage of it and climb the building. Basically, it’s just rare to get this kind of opportunity, so you gotta jump when you can.”

He continued: “I think I’ve always had curiosity about what it would feel like to climb a building this big. I’ve climbed tons of huge walls in the world but never something man-made like that.

“Also, buildings are steeper than most rock faces. Most rock faces, even the ones that look vertical, aren’t actually vertical, or they’re not vertical for the whole way — whereas the building is vertical the whole way, so it’s cool. It’s just a difference, and it’s exciting.”
