If the start of Christmas songs playing on the radio or while shopping has indicated, we are getting very close to Christmas 2024; which means we’re now in the midsts of Panto season!
Whatever your outlook is on the artform - and yes, it is still an artform - Scotland has its fair share of pantomime taking place throughout the remainder of the year, while one production from our picks continues well into the new year.
Many of these events are ticketed, so be prepared to visit Ticketmaster, ATG Tickets or contacting the relevant box office or ticketing outlet for the pantomimes you’ve decided to sit back and enjoy a little audience participation from.
But before you say anything - yes, it would appear Aladdin and Jack and the Beanstalk are the pantomimes du jour this year; but what else has made our selection of Pantomimes taking place in Scotland in 2024?

17. Pinocchio (Langholm)
Pinocchio loosely follows the traditional tale of the wooden puppet with a nose that grows, made by Tuscan woodcarver Geppetto. However, as one would expect with Panto, there is a lot of fun along the way, with Dame (Mama Macaroni) Goodies and Baddies, music and dancing, terrible jokes and a happy ending. The season begins at the Buccleuch Centre from December 12 2024. | Provided

18. A Christmas Carol (Musselburgh)
The Brunton and Wonder Fools present this exciting new pantomime set in East Lothian and inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas story. Called “One of the most vibrant young companies to emerge onto the scene in recent years” by The Scotsman, A Christmas Carol performs from December 18 2024 at Loretto School Theatre. | Canva

19. Jack and the Beanstalk (Greenock)
Up his castle in the clouds, Giant Greedyguts plans to destroy the pantomime kingdom of Inverstrone if Dame Trot doesn’t give him her precious cow, Moomoo, for his lunch. This is just the adventure that Dame Trot’s daredevil daughter, Jack, has been waiting for. She swears to find a way up to Cloudland to defeat the Giant and save Inverstrone. But how? Did somebody say “Magic Beans?” Enjoy Beacon Art's entry once again into Panto season from December 18 2024. | Provided

20. Aladdin The Family Pantomime (Bishopbriggs)
The classic, much loved tale brought to life again with new jokes, songs and hilarious gags at Fort Theatre, Bishopbriggs from December 19 2024. Will Abanazar become the most powerful sorcerer and marry the Princess? Will Aladdin and his friends be able to put things right? Will Widow Twankey ever stop flirting with the audience? | Canva
