Can you have too much of a good thing? Well, it turns out the answer to this is in fact yes.
Because I sat down and watched every major Christmas advert released in the UK in 2024 all in one go and I think I got a sugar rush of the brain. I felt the same way I do after gorging myself on gingerbread men on December 25 - shame, festive cheer and like I wanted to throw up.
There were plenty of highs - I’ve already spoken of my love for this year’s John Lewis advert and that has not changed in the days since. However there were some really unfortunate lows.

9. M&S Christmas food advert
Starring Dawn French once again, Marks and Spencer have sprinkled yet more magic on our TV sets with this 2024 offering. And for the cherry on top of the (Christmas) cake it is soundtracked by the classic seasonal favourite track ‘Step into Christmas’. It is bound to be one to get you smiling each time it pops up on the tele. Christmas rating: 3.5 Jingle Bells. | M&S/ YouTube Photo: M&S/ YouTube

10. Pepsi Max - Everything else can wait
A very fun effort this year from Pepsi Max, which starts by showing a world that has stopped - the offices are empty, no-one is in the gym - before revealing that is because everyone is partying for Christmas together. A good song choice and it is a really good effort but it won’t live on in the history books. Christmas rating: 3.75 Jingle Bells. | Pepsi Max/ YouTube Photo: Pepsi Max/ YouTube

11. Morrisons - Christmas advert 2024
A lovely ode to the oven mit, this is a fun way to do a Christmas advert. Showing off Morrisons food but in a way that fits like a glove - because oven mits are around food. Perhaps the song choice could have been more Christmassy - in my personal opinion. Christmas rating: 3.75 Jingle Bells. | Morrisons/ YouTube Photo: Morrisons/ YouTube

12. Boots - Make Magic
Ignore the haters, this is a really good Christmas advert. It is a fun play on the idea of Santa’s workshop and the inclusivity really is heartwarming - and the festive season is a time for family and that includes everyone! Christmas rating: 4 Jingle Bells. | Boots/ YouTube Photo: Boots/ YouTube
