Under the Radar: Casual Drag

The new single from Glasgow trio Casual Drag could be read as a comment on the upcoming Scottish election, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon
Consisting of Richard Clarke, Dominic MacInnes and Matt Charlton, Casual Drag are the latest signing to the renowned student record label Electric Honey Records, run by Glasgow Kelvin College and best-known for helping kickstart the careers of Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol and Belle and Sebastian.
Recorded at Pocket Sounds Studios in Edinburgh and released last week, their catchy, garage-punk single The Talk oozes with attitude and swagger. It’s well timed, too: with this year’s Scottish election just days away, it’s critical of those hiding their true intentions behind manipulative words.
To date, Casual Drag have sold out shows across Scotland and supported IDLES frontman Joe Talbot, Irish artist Meryl Streek and US group Frankie & the Witch Fingers. They’ve also been championed by BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music and God Is In The TV Zine, and their recent singles have amassed tens of thousands of streams on Spotify alone.
The Glasgow trio head out on tour soon with dates in London, Brighton, Leeds and Manchester plus their biggest hometown show to date at Glasgow’s legendary School of Art on 12 June, see https://casualdrag.com
