Time for another trip down memory lane - or a history lesson if you were a child of the 90s and beyond.
While we’ve taken a look at some of those memorable Scottish acts that permeated the airwaves and our eardrums during the decade of the 90s, we have heard you all loud and clear - what about something a little earlier?
Well, how about the 1980s?
A formative year for music, with the rise of new wave, post-punk, hip-hop and the tail end of the punk movement, a rather large number of musicians who cut their teeth as part of various local scenes in Scotland would go on to form several acts that we still herald to this day; from Shirley Manson’s early musical escapades before Garbage, through to the bands that ended up joining together to form Teenage Fanclub.
Here’s our 15 picks of bands from Scotland that formed or gained prominence throughout the 1980s, from old favourites to some even we had forgotten about.

13. The Jesus and Mary Chain (East Kilbride)
One of Scotland's most influential and controversial bands of the 1980s. Formed by brothers Jim and William Reid, the band pioneered a unique brand of noise pop, blending sugary pop melodies with feedback-drenched guitar noise. Their debut album, Psychocandy, released in 1985, became a landmark of the post-punk and shoegaze scenes, and their short, chaotic live shows and rebellious attitude cemented their status as alternative rock icons. | Getty Images

14. BMX Bandits (Bellshill, North Lanarkshire)
Formed in Bellshill in 1985 by singer and songwriter Duglas T. Stewart, The BMX Bandits became a beloved part of the Scottish indie pop scene. Known for their whimsical and heartfelt melodies, they are often considered “the best band in the world” by their most ardent fans. The band's legacy is also intertwined with a who's who of Scottish indie music, with members of Teenage Fanclub and The Vaselines passing through their ranks at various stages. | Discogs

15. Sheena Easton (Bellshill, North Lanarkshire)
A pop superstar from Bellshill, Sheena Easton had a hugely successful solo career, particularly in the United States, with hits across pop, soft rock, and R&B genres. She was one of the few Scottish artists of the time to achieve massive international fame, cementing her place as a major pop cultural figure of the decade. | Getty Images
