Scottish golf club has entire trophy collection stolen in weekend break in
Theft took place after Captain’s Charity Day and with Borders club’s centenary on horizon in 2028
Police are investigating the theft of a Scottish golf club’s entire collection of trophies over the weekend.
The clear out of trophies at Minto Golf Club in the Borders happened a few hours after members had enjoyed a Captain’s Charity Day. The theft took place with the club’s centenary on the horizon in 2028.
A post on Facebook on Sunday night read: “We are devastated to share that our club was broken into around 22:45pm last night after what was an amazing Captain’s Charity Day, with thieves stealing all of our trophies.

“These trophies are far more than pieces of silverware. They represent almost 100 years of history, achievements, friendships and treasured memories of generations of members. To see that history taken from our club is absolutely heartbreaking.
“We would like to thank Police Scotland for their swift response and for their efforts to investigate the incident and, hopefully, recover our trophies. We sincerely hope that these irreplaceable pieces of our club’s history can be returned.
“We would also like to highlight this incident to other sporting clubs across the Borders. Please be aware of the potential threat and consider taking whatever additional security measures you can to protect your own clubs and their history.
“If anyone has any information which may assist Police Scotland, please get in touch with them.

“These trophies belong to our club, our members and our community. They are irreplaceable, and we desperately hope to see them come home!”
Minto Golf Club is located close to the village of Denholm, which lies five miles from Hawick.
Earlier this year, thieves broke into Harburn Golf Club in West Calder and stole trophies there after smashing display cabinets.
