Scotland gearing up to host two strongest fields outside majors this month

World No 1s spearhead star-studded fields for Genesis Scottish Open and ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open

Two of the strongest fields in world golf outside of the majors are set to assemble in Scotland over the next few weeks as the stature of both the Genesis Scottish Open and ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open is rubber-stamped once again.

Six of the top ten and 14 of the leading 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are teeing up next week in the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian.

In an equally-impressive endorsement of the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, meanwhile, seven of the top ten in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings are now committed to playing at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire towards the end of this month.

Both fields will be headed by the current world No 1s in Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda as the two events continue to boast world-class fields thanks to the Genesis Scottish Open being co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA Tour while the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open benefits from a similar set up between the Ladies European Tour and LPGA.

All four current men’s major champions are now in the line up at The Renaissance, with Wyndham Clark having been confirmed to make his first appearance since landing a second US Open victory in four years as he reclaimed the trophy at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island a week past Sunday.

He will join Scheffler (The Open), Rory McIlroy (The Masters) and Aaron Rai (PGA Championship) in teeing it up in the $9 million Rolex Series event. McIlroy, who achieved the feat in 2023, and Rai, who triumphed in 2020, are both past Genesis Scottish Open winners.

Korda, a four-time winner already this year, including two majors, had already been confirmed for a Dundonald Links date on 23-26 July along with defending champion Lottie Woad and fellow English star Charley Hull, the world No 4 and No 5 respectively.

The trio have now been joined in the field by world No 3 Hyo Joo Kim from Korea, eighth-ranked Miyu Yamashita from Japan, world No 9 Hannah Green from Australia and tenth-ranked Korean Sei Young Kim.

Yamashita will make her second appearance in the $2m event, having finished T10 last year on the Ayrshire coast before going on to claim victory in the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl the following week.

Significantly, each of the last five AIG Women’s Open champions competed in the Women’s Scottish Open the week prior to their major victory, highlighting the event’s key role as vital preparation for the final major of the year, which is taking place on this occasion at Royal Lytham.

Having expressed similar sentiments about the Genesis Scottish Open, Rob Dickson, Director of Industry and Events at VisitScotland, said of the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish: “We are excited to welcome such a world-class field to Scotland.

“As the home of golf, Scotland is proud to host events that bring the world’s best players and fans to our shores, showcasing our outstanding courses, warm welcome and unforgettable visitor experiences.
