Twenty senior players left Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors at the end of the season and most - but not all - have found new homes for the 2025-26 campaign.
Some have landed lucrative contracts in France and England while others are still hoping to secure a deal in the coming weeks.
Summer can be a time of uncertainty for out-of-contract rugby pros, with the search to find a club intensifying as the new season looms. Here’s the latest state of play on those who left Scotland’s two professional teams.

5. Facundo Cordero
The Argentina winger struggled to establish himself in two-and-a-bit seasons with Glasgow Warriors but did score a try on his debut in the win over the Dragons in February 2024. Made 10 appearances for Franco Smith’s side but has now returned to Argentina to play for the Regatas club in Bella Vista. Unfortunately for Cordero, he suffered a serious knee injury earlier this month playing against Buenos Aires and is likely to be out long term with a suspected torn cruciate ligament. | SNS Group

6. JP du Preez
The towering lock forward left Scotstoun after three seasons and it was announced earlier this month that he would be moving to Japan to play for the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes. Du Preez, 30, joined Glasgow Warriors from Sale Sharks in summer 2022 and played in all but one of his new club’s matches in his debut season. However, the South African suffered a serious knee injury in August 2023 which kept him out for 650 days. Returned in March 2025 against the Ospreys but was one of eight players released by Glasgow at the season’s end. At 6ft 10in, he is the tallest man to have played for the Warriors. | SNS Group

7. Jake Henry
Pacy winger was one of 12 to leave Edinburgh. He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Coventry but had to wait until March to make his debut for the English Championship club. The 24-year-old came through Edinburgh Rugby’s pro-academy after impressing for Ross Sutherland. He starred for the Scotland sevens team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, scoring a hat-trick against Malaysia. Was part of the Southern Knights side that reached the inaugural Super6 final in 2021 but found his progress at Edinburgh hindered by injury and the club’s wealth of back-three talent. | SNS Group

8. Robin Hislop
The prop called time on his 16-year pro career in the summer, posting a heartfelt statement on social media which gave thanks to all those who had helped him on a journey which began in his hometown of Langholm and saw him play for Edinburgh Rugby, Rotherham Titans, Doncaster Knights, Wasps and Saracens before returning to Edinburgh in 2023. A serious knee injury limited his game-time in the capital last season but at 33 Hislop can look back on a colourful career which included an appearance in the Premiership final at Twickenham in 2023 as Sarries defeated Sale Sharks. | SNS Group
