Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Rugby team news
Glasgow have made just one personnel change to the team that beat Toulouse so impressively in the Investec Champions Cup last weekend. Full-back Josh McKay has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and head coach Franco Smith has brought scrum-half George Horne into his starting side in a reshuffled back line. Horne’s inclusion sees Jamie Dobie move from nine to wing, with Ollie Smith switching from wing to full-back, in place of McKay.
By contrast, Edinburgh have made wholesale changes after resting a number of frontline players for their Champions Cup clash with Castres last Sunday.
They welcome back six Scotland internationals who were rested against Castres, including prolific Scotland wingers Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe. There are also returns for Pierre Schoeman, Grant Gilchrist, Dylan Richardson, and club captain Magnus Bradbury. In addition, Wes Goosen and Ewan Ashman both start after featuring from the bench last weekend.
Dropping out of the squad are Jack Brown, Ross McCann, Lewis Wells and Tom Dodd, the first two because of head injuries. Boan Venter, Harri Morris, Callum Hunter-Hill and Freddy Douglas, who all started in the defeat in France, are named on the bench.
Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Rugby last season
Glasgow Warriors beat Edinburgh 33-14 in the 1872 Cup first leg at Hampden last season but the capital side took a measure of revenge a week later by winning the second leg 10-7 at Murrayfield.
The narrow victory wasn’t enough to stop Glasgow lifting the 1872 Cup thanks to a 40-21 aggregate triumph. It was the third season in a row that they had come out on top in the inter-city contest.
