Scotland star set for fantasy rugby partnership as new club poach legend for next season
Outgoing Glasgow Warriors’ ace Jones to join Toulon alongside 98-cap Six Nations winner

Scotland internationalist Huw Jones could be set to form a a dream centre partnership when he joins Toulon next season after the French club’s latest signing.
Reports in France claim that Glasgow Warriors’ Champions Cup conquerors have secured the signing of France legend Gael Fickou for next season. The 98-times capped Six Nations Grand Slam winner is said to have agreed a move to the Stade Mayol on a two-year contract from Top 14 rivals Racing 92.
Jones agreed his own move to the Côte d'Azur club earlier this year once his deal at Scotstoun comes to an end. The duo have a combined 164 international caps and 42 test match tries between them.
‘Fantasy rugby’ centre partnership coming to life at Toulon next season
Although they would be able to form a generational ‘fantasy rugby’ partnership, it is also likely they will be in direct competition for a place in Toulon’s starting XV. Fickou, who has also played as a winger, is known for being equally skilled at both inside centre and outside centre.
Securing the 12 jersey at Toulon will be difficult given the form of Italy’s Juan Ignacio Brex, who has been one of world rugby’s standout players for the past few seasons both at club and international level. Whatever happens, head coach Pierre Mignoni will be spoilt for choice in the middle of the park next season.
Fickou came through the ranks at Toulouse in the early stages of his career, making his senior debut in 2012 and quickly earning his first France cap just one year later. He left for Stade Français in 2018 and then in 2021 moved to Racing 92.
The 32-year-old has appeared at three Rugby World Cups and won two Six Nations Championships in 2022 and 2025. He was an integral part of the Les Bleus side that captured the Grand Slam in his first tournament win, although he was left out of the squad for this season’s tournament.
Glasgow Warriors losing prolific Scotland star for 2026/27 season
British & Irish Lion Jones will bring to an end his second spell with Glasgow Warriors this summer, having rejoined the club from Harlequins in 2022. He initially left for the London outfit in 2021 after a four year spell at Scotstoun.
The University of Cape Town alumni burst on to the scene with South African side Stormers (Western Provence) back in 2014 and won his first Scotland cap in 2016. Although he briefly fell out of favour under Gregor Townsend the 32-year old is currently one Scotland’s most prolific attackers and sits fourth on the list of his countries all time try scorers.
He forms the iconic ‘Huwipulotu’ centre partnership at both club and country with teammate Sione Tuipulotu. The pair have been recognised as one of the most dangerous pairings anywhere in world rugby.
Jones was also selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia where he played in all three Test matches and scored a try in the decisive second win in Melbourne. It was confirmed by Glasgow Warriors back in January that he would be joining Toulon for the 2026/27 season.
