Rugby World Cup fans in union against Paloma Faith song

RUGBY fans have called on ITV to stop playing Paloma Faith’s version of World In Union as the theme tune to its World Cup coverage.

An online petition signed by over 5,000 people wants the song ditched.

The petition reads: “We, the undersigned, request that you, ITV, remove Paloma Faith from the Rugby World Cup in order to make it a more enjoyable experience for all spectators.”

The singer has previously said that she was “quite pleased” with her version of a song, which was first used at the 1991 tournament when it was sung by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

“Some people are slating it, I feel like they don’t like change, but I don’t mind,” Faith said.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “We are happy with Paloma’s rendition.” But one petitioner wrote: “It is awful. Truly awful.”
