Glasgow Warriors complete fourth summer signing as ex Scotland U20 forward gets second Scotstoun chance

Franco Smith ‘pleased’ to welcome former player back to Warriors ahead of 2026/27 URC campaign.

Glasgow Warriors have re-signed academy graduate Ruaraidh Hart on a professional contract to bolster their back-row options ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The former Scotland under 20s forward returns to Scotstoun having most recently been with National League Division 1 side Stirling County. The 22-year-old, a product of Birkmyre RFC and the Glasgow Academy, left Warriors in 2024.

Since then he has represented the Scotland Club XV in their clash with Ireland Club XV earlier this year. Hart previously represented Scotland at U18 and U20 level, featuring for Scotland U20 across the 2023 and 2024 U20 Six Nations.

Former Scotland under 20 international returning to Glasgow Warriors ‘a more rounded athlete’

He said: “I’m incredibly excited to be back. I’m happy to have been given another opportunity to show what I’m about and I’ve been working hard throughout the off-season to be in the best position to come in and give my all.

“Having spent a couple of years studying at university, I feel like I’m coming back as a more rounded person and a more rounded athlete. I’m still thoroughly enjoying what I’m doing at university, but I’m desperate to get back out on the pitch and make the most of this opportunity.

“I want to thank everyone at Stirling County, too, for everything they’ve done to help me develop – I wouldn’t have been able to earn this opportunity without the work of everyone up at Bridgehaugh.

“I just want to get back fully into the group, keep working hard and putting my hands up for more opportunities. Making my Glasgow Warriors debut a couple of years ago was a dream come true and hopefully I can add to that tally of appearances this season.”

Hart becomes Glasgow Warriors fourth new arrival of the summer following the additions of backrowers Ruwald Van Der Merwe and Jamie Ritchie plus utility-back Bayley Kuenzle.

Head Coach Franco Smith added: “We are pleased to welcome Ruaraidh back into our environment as we continue to build towards the new campaign. He has worked hard, applied himself in training and dedicated himself to becoming the best version of himself that he can be, and he is someone for whom being a Warrior means a great deal.”
