The Scotland international receives the ban for having been shown three yellow cards this season, the most recent coming in their 48-12 defeat to Stormers last time out. It means he will now miss his club’s next two fixtures starting with the visit of Cardiff to Scotstoun on Friday night.

The 29-year-old, who has agreed a move to French Top 14 outfit Montpellier for next season, will also have to sit out Warriors’ final match before the play-offs away to Ulster on May 15. His previous two offences came against Zebre in January and Leinster in March.

URC ruling sees Hastings handed two match suspension

A statement from the URC, via Judicical Officer Simon Thomas of Wales, said: “Incidents 1 [vs Zebre] and 3 [vs Stormers] had similar features involving reckless contact between the Player’s shoulder and the head of an opponent where there was no attempt to lower body height and no attempt to wrap. These acts of foul play were in relatively short succession (about three months). Incident 3 could have reached the red card threshold for the reasons stated above.

“The second incident [vs Leinster] was unpleasant. It was an intentional act. It caused order to break down on the field of play and could have affected the remainder of the match. Taking all these matters into account, the Player’s disciplinary record, and the Player’s admission in that he did not seek to challenge any of the yellow cards, I consider his conduct was moderately serious.

“The two dangerous tackles had concerning similar features with no attempt to wrap with the arms. I determine the appropriate sanction is a suspension from the game of rugby union of two weeks which, based upon the Player’s playing schedule, incorporates the following matches: Glasgow Warriors v Cardiff Rugby, Saturday May 8, URC and Ulster Rugby v Glasgow Warriors, Saturday May 15, URC.”

Hastings can now play no part in these two crucial fixtures for Warriors, who still have ambitions of finishing top of the table ahead of the play-offs. He will, however, return in time for the title run in once the regular season has concluded.
