'We can build on this' - Edinburgh coach Sean Everitt proud of team after Leinster defeat

The Scottish side exited the Champions Cup in Dublin after a breathtaking 49-31 defeat at the Aviva Stadium

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt said he was proud of his players after they gave Leinster a difficult afternoon at the Aviva Stadium.

The final score of 49-31 came as a result of a strong final half hour by the hosts after the Scottish outfit had capitalised on multiple mistakes to run in five tries. They even had the lead for a brief moment after the break following Darcy Graham’s score but just couldn’t keep pace once the hosts cut out the errors and moved up the gears.

Speaking after the match, Everitt said: “Very proud of what they put on out there. We wanted to put Leinster under pressure and we knew that if we disrupted them we'd get opportunities.

Everitt praises Edinburgh players after Champions Cup exit to Leinster

“We got a couple of intercept tries as well, so we were able to stay in the game. Unfortunately they had a couple of turnovers from set piece on first phase which didn't help our cause and they got over for two and that was probably the difference.

“We spoke earlier about the Stormers game and 62 minutes I think was the number as well [the tide turned]. That is disappointing. We're going to have to look at that.

“I thought the bench did well coming on. I thought Boan Venter and Paul Hill steadied the scrum and we were able to play off that a little bit more. Some good individual performances out there as well and the guys can be proud.”

Edinburgh need to focus on ‘winning every game’ as season looks set to peter out

With their Champions Cup campaign over and chances of making the URC play-offs incredibly slim, Edinburgh need to focus on simply winning games. Their next match comes a week on Friday at home to Zebre.

Everitt added: “For us it's about winning every game that we play from now on and we've got some difficult games because the teams that we're playing against are hitting some forms. The Dragons beat Stade Francais away, Connacht got a big win over the Sharks at the weekend, so it doesn't get any easier.

“But I think we can build on this performance today. A lot of positives that we can get out of this.”
