Winter Olympics 2026 Women's Curling Latest: How Sophie Jackson and Team GB can reach the semi-finals of the women's competition, results, fixtures

After a poor start in the Olympic comeptition, Team GB’s women curlers have a real shot of making the semi-finals.

There was heartbreak at the Winter Olympics last week as Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds failed to win a medal after losing their Bronze Medal Match in the mixed doubles to Italy.

But there are still two more chances for Scotland’s curlers to appear on the podium, with both the men’s and the women’s competitions nearly at the medal match stage.

The women had a mixed start to the round robin, with a memorable win over world champions Canada tempered by loses to China, Korea and Sweden.

Monday saw them win a crucial match against Denmark, but a loss against Switzerland meant they were on the verge of exiting before the semi-finals.

However today (Wednesday) saw them remain in contention after a last-gasp morning win over the United States, followed by an emphatic win over Japan in the evening.

They now have one must-win match left in the round robin to have a chance of a final four place.

Here’s everything you need to know about how they could reach the medal matches.

When are Team GB playing next in the Women’s Curling?

Team GB play Italy at 1.05pm on Thursday, February 19. It is their last round robin match.

What other women’s curling matches are being played on Wednesday at the Winter Olympics?

Aside from Team GB’s match, the following games will be played in the final women’s round robin session on Thursday.

1.05pm

  • Japan v China
  • Switzerland v United States
  • Canada v South Korea

How can Team GB reach the semi-finals of the Winter Olympics Women’s Curling?

The first thing that Team GB have to do is win the last of their round robin games against Italy. If they don’t then they exit the competition. If they do win then things get interesting.

Sweden and Switzerland are already through to the finals. They will be joined by two teams from four - Great Britain, the USA, Canada and South Korea.

Team GB’s three rivals have all won one more game than Britain, so a win for any of them will mean they will go through to the semi-finals.

But if any of them lose and Team GB win then they will end up tying on five wins - meaning the result of the match between the two countries in the round robin would be used to decide who reaches the final four.

Team GB beat Canada and the USA but lost to South Korea in the round robin.

What that means is that whoever wins the match between Canada and South Korea will end up topping GB in the table (Canada as they will have more wins and South Korea on the head-to-head).

So, for Team GB to go through they need Switzerland to beat the United States. Fingers crossed.

What is the format of the Women’s Curling at the Winter Olympics 2026?

It’s a pretty simple format to find out who will win gold, silver and bronze. All the teams will play each other (so that’s nine matches in total for each team), then the top four teams in the table at the end of the round robin will go through to the semi-finals.

The two winning teams from the semi-finals go on the the gold medal game and the two losers will contest the bronze medal game.

How can I watch the Women’s Curling at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

All the action will be available to watch on the BBC - with coverage across BBC One, BBC Two, the iPlayer and the Red Button.

What are the rules of curling?

In each end of curling each team plays a total of eight shots, with each player delivering two stones in succession, starting with the lead and ending with the skip.

At the completion of each end the number of stones closest to the ‘button’ (the bullseye) of the house will score.

The stone closest to the button effectively wins the end, with any further stones closer to the centre than the opposition’s best shot also counting – meaning it is possible, but highly unlikely, to get a maximum of eight shots in a single end (an eight-ender, which is curling’s version of golf’s hole in one).

After ten ends the team with most shots in total wins, while if the game is tied it will go to an 11th sudden death end.
