Nairn's Sandy Scott on course to secure PGA Tour card for 2027 season

Scottish player records his career-best finish on Korn Ferry Tour in Tennessee

Sandy Scott handed his hopes of being a PGA Tour card holder next season a huge boost after recording a career-high finish on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The Nairn man is up to 13th on the second-tier circuit’s points list after finishing second behind Mexican Alvaro Ortiz in the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation.

After opening with a brace of 63s then adding a 65, Scott shared the lead with Ortiz heading into the closing circuit at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee.

The former Walker Cup player’s hopes of landing a maiden victory on the circuit were effectively killed off after running up a double-bogey 5 at the fifth hole.

However, Scott repaired that damage straight away with back-to-back birdies before adding further gains at the 11th and 12th.

In signing off with a 67 for a 22-under-par total, he claimed second spot on his own as Ortiz followed opening scores of 65-61-65 with a closing 63 to win by four shots.

It was Scott’s second top-three finish of the 2026 season, having claimed third spot in the Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya back in April.

On the back of this latest eye-catching effort, the 28-year-old, who has been based in the US since his spell at Texas Tech, jumped to No 13 on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour points list.

The top 20 at the end of the season - there are just two more regular events to come before the Tour Championship - will secure PGA Tour cards for 2027.
