Injured star missing as Scots lose opener to Ireland at Monifieth
Hosts lose to Ireland across the board on opening day of matches in Angus
Scotland started the Boys’ Home Internationals at Monifieth on Tuesday without national champion Fraser Walters after he was injured in a pre-event running session.
The Scotsman understands that Walters, who was crowned as Scottish Boys’ champion at Fraserburgh last month, tore an abductor muscle during the session at Carnoustie on Sunday.

It meant the Blairgowrie player was unable to join his younger sister, Stella, in representing Scotland in the combined Boys/Girls’ event in Angus.
Scottish Golf confirmed that Walters had picked up an injury and had been replaced in the side by Trump International’s Evan Walker.
Minus one of their star players, Scotland faced Ireland on the opening day at Monifieth and suffered defeats in all three events.
The hosts went down 13.5-7.5 in the overall contest, lost 7.5-4.5 in the boys’ match and were beaten 6-3 in the girls’ matches.
Scotland now face England, who beat Wales across the board in their opening match, in Wednesday’s action at the Angus venue.
The Men’s/Women’s event gets underway on Wednesday at Woodbrook Golf Club in County Wicklow, where Scotland face England on the opening day.
