The Scottish Premiership returns in just one week and Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs are all still hoping to strengthen their squads with the season opener firmly on the horizon.
There are still approximately five weeks left in the summer transfer window; however, the clock is ticking as managers look to add those finishing touches to their squads for the 2026/27 campaign.
While every fan loves to see their club splash the cash on the next potential superstar, there are often lots of bargains to be found in the free agent market, with several players coming to the end of their contract in the summer and looking for their next challenge.
Here, The Scotsman looks at 13 of the best free agents still able to sign for clubs, including a five-time English Premier League title winner, a former £50million Manchester United favourite and a double promotion-winning left-back.
Would you like to see your club add any of these free agents to the squad in the coming weeks?

9. Mathew Ryan
Tentatively linked to Celtic at the back end of last season, the former Arsenal stopper is one of the most experienced free agent goalkeepers on the market. A regular for Levante last season, he formed part of Australia's World Cup squad this summer. Well travelled, Ryan has experience of the English Premier League, La Liga, the Danish Super League, Dutch Eredivisie, Italian Serie A, and the Belgian Pro League. | Getty Images

10. Bruce Anderson
The 27-year-old striker has scored over 60 senior career goals across his time in the Scottish Premiership and lower leagues, playing for the likes of including Aberdeen, Livingston, and Kilmarnock. Departed Rugby Park upon the expiry of his contract in the summer, and would be a reliable and experienced option for many clubs in the top flight. | SNS Group

11. Emil Krafth
The versatile defender ended his seven-year stay at Newcastle United upon the end of his contract in June, making over 100 senior appearances for the club, with many of them coming in the top flight. A vastly experienced international, Krafth has 52 caps for Sweden. He turns 32 next month. | Getty Images

12. Anthony Martial
The experienced French striker cost Manchester United a reported £50million when he signed for the Red Devils 11 years ago, but is now available on a free after leaving Liga MX side Monterrey, where he scored just once. Prior to his time in Mexico, he enjoyed a short and productive stint with AEK Athens, scoring seven goals in 16 games. Still just 30, he has plenty left in the tank. | Getty Images
