Ex-Dundee United kid makes SPFL return
Former Dundee United youngster Brandon Forbes is back in Scottish football just two years after making a £300,000 move to EFL Championship side Norwich City. The 20-year-old exploded on the scene at Tannadice when he lashed home a stunning strike against Ayr United in the Premier Sports Cup group stages, catching the eye of the Carrow Road outfit, who agreed to shell out a significant fee to sign the then-18-year-old.
However, things haven’t quite gone to plan for Forbes since his move to East Anglia, with the left-winger spending the majority of his time out on loan with Tamworth and King’s Lynn before being released by Norwich this summer. It hasn’t taken long for the attacker to find a new employer, though, with League One side Alloa Athletic confirming his arrival on a one-year contract.

Ex-Hibs star in EPL link
Former Hibs left-back Josh Doig is reportedly on Sunderland’s shortlist this summer, with the English Premier League side said to be ‘weighing up their options’, with clubs on the continent also understood to be monitoring the situation of the Sassuolo defender. The 24-year-old burst onto the scene at Easter Road almost six years ago, establishing himself as one of the country’s best young prospects, before being snapped up by Hellas Verona.
After spending two seasons at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, he caught the eye of Sassuolo, where he has become a regular, making 30 appearances for the club last season. However, he could be set for another major move this summer, with a host of European clubs said to be keeping tabs on the Scotland international. According to a report from the Daily Record, Sunderland have registered an interest in the former Hibee, but will face significant competition from Marseille and Greek outfit Olympiakos, who are long-term admirers of Doig.

Rangers explore defender deal
Rangers are exploring a deal to re-sign former loanee Jayden Meghoma after first-choice left-back Tuur Rommens was struck down with a groin injury. According to Sky Sports, the Ibrox club have entered talks over a potential move to bring back the Brentford defender, who made 29 appearances for the club in all competitions last season.
Meghoma, 20, was brought in by former head coach Russell Martin last season, and was a regular feature in the Rangers defence in the first half of the campaign, but fell out of favour upon the arrival of Rommens from Westerlo in January. It is understood the English youngster is one of many options Rangers are considering, with long-term target James Penrice also being considered.
The club have been linked with moves for Kosta Nedeljkovic from Aston Villa and Hugo Siquet from Club Brugge this week as they look to address their problem right-back position. However, manager Derek McInnes has now been forced to re-enter the market for reinforcements on the opposite flank, with Rommens expected to be sidelined for several weeks, while they are also searching for additions upfront after Youssef Chermiti was confirmed to have suffered an ACL injury in the 2-1 defeat to Hibs at the weekend.

Celtic medical completed
Celtic are close to completing the signing of Egypt international Haissem Hassan after the winger completed a medical ahead of a £9million move to the club. Linked to the club throughout the summer, the 24-year-old impressed at the World Cup, producing an eye-catching display in Egypt’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the last-16, where he grabbed a stunning assist and created several high-quality chances for his side as they threatened a major shock in Atlanta.
Currently playing for the recently relegated Spanish outfit Real Oviedo, he was also linked with Trabzonspor and clubs in the Saudi Pro League last month. However, Celtic moved to the front of the queue for his signature earlier this week after agreeing a fee with his club, with Nueva Espana reporting that he was permitted to fly to London for his medical.
Further reports indicate that the Egyptian passed his medical with no issues, adding that the move is expected to be rubber-stamped in the coming hours. Hassan will join Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran as Celtic’s third new summer arrival, and could be in line to make his debut against Dundee United in the Premier Sports Cup this weekend.
