Scotland talisman breaks silence on future and contract talks after 'stressful' summer - 'taking over my life'
The Scotland star will enter the final months of his contract at Liverpool in the new year.
Scotland skipper Andy Robertson admits he is bracing himself for a defining chapter in his trophy-laden career as he approaches the final six months of his contract with English Premier League champions Liverpool.
The 31-year-old defender is into his ninth season with the Merseyside giants, and has won an astonishing nine trophies with the club since arriving from Hull City back in the summer of 2017, but has saw his future at the club thrown into doubt with his Anfield contract set to expire in the summer.
Briefly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer following the £40million arrival of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, Robertson has fought his way back into Arne Slot’s starting XI in recent weeks, starting the last four games for the club. However, despite returning to the fold over the last month, Robertson concedes he is no closer to knowing if he’ll still be lining up for the club this time next year.

“The relationship between me and the club has been a wonderful one. They [Liverpool] have done everything for me and my family. I think I've not been too bad for them in terms of signing from Hull for £8million and what I've done. Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors, and I'm relaxed about the whole situation. If it is my last year, then it's my last year. If it's not, then so be it.
“Obviously, I had a bit of a stressful summer in terms of decisions and things like that. I've said to myself to just try and enjoy the next few months and then obviously it will start probably taking over my life. I've got no doubt about that. That's what happens when you go into your last six months.
“I'm just trying to focus on football now. Delighted to be back on the pitch, delighted to be back playing the last few games. That's important and let's see what happens. But I'm relaxed about the whole thing and the club has been amazing for me."
Staying with Liverpool, on loan Dundee United wing-back Luca Stephenson, insists he has no intention of returning to Anfield in January, despite the Merseyside club’s defensive injury crisis, as he revealed the reasons training with former Liverpool frontman Luiz Diaz has helped him during his 18-month loan spell at Tannadice.
“I want to stick around for the full season here,” Stephenson told The Courier. “It doesn’t matter how well I’m doing or how well I did last season, when I join a club, I commit to a full season. I almost try and forget about being a Liverpool player a little bit. I’m a Dundee United player and that’s my only concern.
“Where I’ve come from in the past couple of years – playing and training at Liverpool – I don’t really fear playing against anybody. When I’m training with the best in the world every day, it’s natural to gain confidence. If I can get through an 11 vs 11 against Luis Diaz, I can get through an 11 v 11 playing against anybody in this league. The three I played against in the summer and throughout pre-season would have been Diaz, [Florian] Wirtz and [Cody] Gakpo – which is a decent range of players.”
