Rangers took part in two friendlies on Wednesday with a B team taking on Dundee United at Murray Park in the afternoon before the first team were in action against Motherwell in the evening at Ibrox. The games produced contrasting results with the reserves being soundly beaten, while Steven Gerrard’s men thumped the Steelmen.
The line-ups and involvement of certain players in each fixture were of particular interest to many and suggested plenty about the future of some, whether they are destined to leave or are set to stay and play a role in the forthcoming season.

5. Greg Docherty
The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibs and it is likely he will depart once more. Despite offering plenty of dynamism in the middle of the pitch he has so much competition in midfield and could be used as a makeweight in a possible deal. Photo: SNS Group Craig Foy

6. Greg Stewart
Rangers won’t be in a rush to move Stewart on despite him starting for the B team on Wednesday. He can operate in one of the attacking roles behind the striker and with Jermain Defoe injured possibly through the middle. Will be a bit-part player, however. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group

7. Glenn Middleton
It seemed that following a disappointing loan spell with Hibs it would be difficult for the player to nail down a position at Ibrox. Yet, he has had his role altered and found himself playing at left-back. Even still it is a position which doesn’t leave much in the way of inroads to the first-team. Photo: Bill Murray - SNS Group

8. Ross McCorie
Rangers probably didn’t get what they wanted from McCrorie’s loan deal to Portsmouth. He was converted into a right-back when it was hoped he would gain more experience in the middle of the pitch. If he is seen as a midfielder at Rangers another loan move is likely. Photo: SNS Group Alan Harvey
