'What a nice guy" BBC pundits praise Rangers' goalscorer Alfredo Morelos for sporting behaviour

Alfredo Morelos has been commended for a show of sportsmanship to Royal Antwerp opponent Jeremy Gelin.

The defender pulled up with a hamstring injury chasing the ball alongside the Colombian forward but, with a path to goal unhindered, Morelos paused to allow treatment for the Belgian side’s player.

Pundits praised the striker’s actions - and admitted they would have been unlikely to be as sporting.

“He doesn’t have to,” said Michael Stewart on BBC Sportsound. “If Morelos was to steam forward to goal unopposed to score you’d be thinking, is that the right thing to do? But technically he didn’t have to.”

“What a nice guy,” former Rangers forward Peter Lovenkrands said.

Asked if he would have done the same Stewart hesitated and ‘passed’ the question but Lovenkrands admitted: “I’ll put my hand up, I’m going straight at him - I’m not stopping.”

Rangers were level at the interval after Morelos’ opener was cancelled out by Lior Refaelov, but led 5-4 on aggregate.
