Rangers seek shock Ibrox reunion but face major transfer hurdle amid interest in 23 y/o international

Rangers have been linked with two new additions as Derek McInnes seek to add to his Ibrox squad.

Rangers have held discussions with Turkish giants Besiktas over a deal that could see former Ibrox fan favourite Vaclav Cerny return to the club permanently this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Record, the Ibrox club have approached Cerny’s current club, Besiktas, with a view to bringing the Czech international back to Glasgow permanently ahead of the September 3 transfer deadline.

The 28-year-old spent a successful year on loan at Rangers during the 2024/25 season, scoring 18 goals and assisting a further nine more in all competitions. However, a permanent deal did not materialise for the winger, with the club ownership changing hands and Russell Martin replacing interim boss Barry Ferguson in the dugout.

With a permanent move to Rangers not proceeding, he earned a move to Turkish Super League giants Besiktas instead. Performing admirably in his debut campaign at the Tupras Stadium, he registered 15 goal contributions as Kara Kartallar finished fourth. Cerny has also started the new season in strong form, claiming two goals and one assist in the club’s opening five games.

Despite his success in Turkiye, the player still has his admirers at Rangers, and the report claims the club have made initial contact for Cerny. However, the deal could prove ‘problematic’ due to Besiktas’ £8million valuation, coupled with his hefty reported £38,000 weekly wage packet.

Elsewhere, Rangers have also been credited with an interest in PSV Eindhoven defender Adamo Nagalo, according to a report from Africafoot. Derek McInnes has already significantly strengthened his backline this summer, with Ben Godfrey signing on loan from Atalanta and Olwethu Makhanya joining from Philadelphia Union for a fee of £3million. However, it is claimed that he’d like to reinforce his defence even further and is exploring a deal to bring the 23-year-old to Govan.

A close friend and former club teammate of ex-Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande, who recently signed for Corum FK, Nagalo began his development alongside the 24-year-old in the Right To Dream youth academy in Ghana. However, while Diomande chose to represent Ivory Coast, Nagalo is of Burkinabe descent and has represented Burkina Faso since September 2022 and was part of their African Cup of Nations squad at the 2023 tournament.

A regular for four seasons with Norwegian side Nordsjælland, he was snapped up by PSV Eindhoven two years ago, playing 12 games for the Eredivisie giants before being allowed to spend last season on loan with Turkish side Konyaspor, who are mulling over a deal to bring him back to the club this summer. Despite having three years remaining on his deal at the Philips Stadium, the Ditch side are open to letting him leave, with Corum FK also interested in his signature.
