Rangers in-form ace 'stood out to every club in the world' claims former boss as Ibrox sell on fee revealed
The Rangers defender has been a key figure in the Ibrox club’s upturn in form.
Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez is on the radar of “every club in the world” and will be sold for a huge fee when he eventually leaves Ibrox, according to one of his former bosses.
The in-form centre-back had a tough introduction to life at Rangers following his £2.5million arrival from Peterborough United in the summer, starting just one league game under former head coach Russell Martin. However, he has flourished under German head coach Danny Rohl since his appointment in October, starting the Gers’ last 12 league games and scoring four goals.
Linked with German giants Borussia Dortmund earlier this week, it is claimed that the English centre-back has been scouted by several clubs on the continent after his starring role in the Rangers starting XI, and Peterborough CEO Darragh MacAnthony admits he is not surprised to hear the European giants are interested in his services, and details why he believes he will be sold for a big fee in the future.

“The geniuses that came out last summer, and were slaughtering me for saying I was going to sell him for many millions,” MacAnthony told Sky Sports. “Because we knew going into last summer, before Rangers came in, that we had offers from two Serie A clubs.
“I knew - because the world is now data driven - if you looked at data, that guy under 24 as a centre-half, stood out to every club in the world. I knew that if he went to Scotland, he would score loads of goals because he’s a danger from a set-piece, and if someone got a trick out of him, or a tune out of him properly with the talent he’s got, then he would go [further] again.”
MacAnthony, 49, also revealed that his club has included a sell-on fee in the deal that took Fernandez to Glasgow in the summer, similar to the deal that saw former Posh striker Ivan Toney move to Brentford for £8million back in 2020.
Toney made a reported £40million transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli just four years after his exit from London Road, and part of that mammoth transfer fee was awarded to the EFL League One due to a clause included in the deal that took him to the Gtech Stadium, and after seeing Fernandez linked with a big money departure from Rangers earlier this week, the Irish CEO believes he can follow a similar path.

“I’m very pleased to say we got a nice sell on [fee] for him and we’ll make millions more [if he is sold],” smiled MacAnthony. “I think he will go on again. We picked up him for £5k from the middle of nowhere.”
