Prominent Rangers figure gives honest verdict on Andreas Skov Olsen and three other transfers
Internationalist ‘has got confidence’ and we’re behind him, says teammate
Andreas Skov Olsen may have made a slow start to his Rangers career - but teammate Jack Butland is convinced the “high-calibre” Denmark internationalist will show his quality between now and the end of the season.
Skov Olsen was Rangers’ marquee signing of the winter transfer window after he agreed a loan deal until the end of the season from German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. The 26-year-old winger has made eight appearances since arriving at Ibrox, scoring once and providing two assists. However, some fans have criticised the Dane for his performances and lack of end product.
Rangers have an £8 million option to buy Skov Olsen at the end of the season and his displays thus far have ignited a debate as to whether the club should sell out a significant fee for his services on a permanent basis. But the wide man found an ally in goalkeeper Butland, who reckons the loanee has much to offer in the final nine matches of the season - starting against St Mirren on Sunday.

“Yeah, there's a lot of things there,” said Butland. “It is difficult at times, but he's a high-calibre player. He's a player that has done it at high levels already.
“It's not always the easiest place to start. But we see it, we believe in him and we know he's got confidence and we're looking forward to seeing that. Hopefully we see a bit of that.”
Rangers’ three other winter arrivals also earned praise from Butland. Left-back Tuur Rommens, midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and striker Ryan Naderi have all become first-team regulars since coming in for a combined total of more than £10m.
“They’re just good quality players,” said Butland. “I just think they've come in with a confidence, with a good character.
“Tuur had to wait a little bit longer for his start and maybe that fuelled him a little bit more, maybe we'd have seen it from the get-go. But he's been excellent, as with the other guys we've mentioned.
“Good characters, great lads around the changing room. They work hard, take their job seriously and they've got quality as well, I think we're seeing that.”
