Kevin Muscat lifts lid on Rangers talks as he addresses collapsed Ibrox move

52y/o gives first insight into failed Rangers discussions

Kevin Muscat has reflected on the "positive" discussions he held with Rangers about their recent managerial vacancy despite failing to land the role.

The former Rangers defender appeared on the brink of an Ibrox return last month amid reports that he had become the club's number one target to replace the sacked Russell Martin.

However, talks broke down over a reported timing issue with the 52-year-old Australian apparently unwilling to depart Shanghai Port immediately as they closed in on the Chinese title.

Rangers moved to appoint Danny Rohl instead while Muscat has since gone on to win the league with his current club for the second season in a row, clinching the championship last weekend.

Addressing the approach from Rangers for the first time, Muscat praised his former club for the way they handled matters but insisted he has now moved on.

He said: “I had some real positive talks with some really good people, real professional people.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for the people that I spoke with. The decision ended up where it ended up.

“It’s not really important who made what decision at what time.

“What’s important is I think everybody’s comfortable now, Rangers seem to have moved on and we’ve won the championship, so I think it’s best just left alone.”
