It has been over years since Rangers confirmed the appointment of former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager, all the way back in 2018. But could he be set to make a sensational return to Ibrox?
The last Gers boss to win the Scottish Premiership trophy in Govan has emerged as one of the leading contenders to be the next Rangers boss following the sacking of Russell Martin on Sunday evening.
His stint in charge of Rangers largely successful, Gerrard’s first summer transfer window saw him recruit the likes of Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and, perhaps less memorably, George Edmundson. In total, there were 42 players who came through the doors at Ibrox during his reign - but who offered Rangers the most?
Here we rank all 42 Rangers players signed by Gerrard from worst to best and ask - where are they now?

13. Andy Firth
The Scouse goalkeeper barely played for Rangers, playing just one league game after signed for the Glasgow giants in January 2019. He certainly enjoyed his time in Scoland though and he was well liked by the Ibrox faithful for his often overzealous celebrations - which place him slightly higher up this list than you would expect! Now retired, he was reported to have become a goalkeeping coach with Al-Ettifaq back in 2024. | Ian MacNicol Photo: Ian MacNicol

14. Gareth McAuley
Signed on a free transfer at the age of 38, the ex-West Bromwich Albion man played his final season at Rangers before retirement. Now an MBE, he manages Northern Ireland's under-19 squad. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images

15. Bongani Zungu
He arrived with a big reputation, but barely featured despite being part of the squad that won Rangers their 55th title. Though the player denied it, his Ibrox career suffered after he was accused of attending a party when Covid-19 guidelines were in place. It led to a suspension along with four other Rangers players. He returned to parent club Amiens after the club rejected an option to sign him permanently for a £2.7 million. 16. Jordan Jones
A boyhood Rangers fan, the Northern Ireland international will likely be remembered for injuring himself during the final seconds of a 2-0 defeat to Celtic. Showed flashes of skill but was nowhere near the player many hoped he could be for the club. Relegated to the fifth tier with Carlisle United last season, Jones is still with the Brunton Park outfit. | Getty Photo: Getty Images
