Hearts cemented their spot at top of the Scottish Premiership as two goals in four first-half minutes saw them beat Rangers 2-1 at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Stuart Findlay and Lawrence Shankland helped the home side end Rangers’ eight game unbeaten league run under German head coach Danny Rohl, as they took all three points in a crucial title clash in the capital. Youssef Chermiti reduced the deficit with the final kick of the game, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
The day almost started in perfect fashion for Rangers when Bojan Miovski tapped home Emmanuel Fernandez’s header from close range. Referee Nick Walsh ruled the goal out for offside, though, following a VAR intervention - and Derek McInnes’ side never looked back as they enjoyed a mammoth victory in Gorgie.
Hearts moved provisionally nine points clear of Celtic, who were in action later on Sunday against Aberdeen, while Rangers sit in fourth and trail the league leaders by 12 points. Motherwell occupy third place, a point ahead of the Ibrox side.
Here’s how The Scotsman rated the performance of each player as Hearts beat Rangers 2-1 at Tynecastle.

17. Alexandros Kyziridis (Hearts) - 9
Had two good opportunities in the first-half, but dragged them wide. His delivery for the opener was sublime and was quite rightly eaten up by Findlay. Showed a real willingness to run at the Rangers defence and pressed well defensively, too. | SNS Group

18. Mohamed Diomande (Rangers) - 4
Had no impact, with the midfield battle centered around tenacity rather than playmaking ability. Taken off at the break as Rangers changed shape. | PA

19. Lawrence Shankland (Hearts) - 9
A true captain's performance, he turned up when it mattered for Hearts, bagging the crucial second with a brilliant finish from the tightest of angles. A humongous goal that put McInnes' side well on course for a monumental win. He'll be disappointed not to have scored more after missing two glorious chances in the second-half to seal the win. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group

20. Mikey Moore (Rangers) - 6
Always tried to play on the front foot and asked questions of the Hearts defence. Tried his best, but little came off for him, though. He became a faded figure after the opening goal. | SNS Group
