Just over six years on from his appointment as manager of the Scotland national team, head coach Steve Clarke will officially become the nation’s longest-serving manager against Belarus this weekend.
Aiming to become the first manager to take Scotland to three major tournaments, Clarke will take charge of his 72nd game when Belarus comes to Glasgow on Sunday, overtaking Craig Brown, who was previously Scotland's longest-serving boss.
His first game in charge, best remembered for a last minute winner from Oli Burke, came on Saturday 8 June 2019, as Scotland downed Cyprus 2-1 at Hampden Park in a European Championship qualifier, which they won 2-1 thanks to strikes from Andy Robertson and the aforementioned Burke.
But where are the starting XI from Clarke’s first Scotland game now? Here’s what happened to every player who featured in the 62-year-old’s first game in charge of the national team:

5. LB: Andy Robertson
Scored his first goal for Scotland in Clarke's first game, with a stunning long-range strike from just outside the box. Now captain of his country, Robertson is Scotland's second most capped outfield player on 87, and is behind only Kenny Dalglish on the list. As he was back in 2019, the 31-year-old still represents Liverpool at club level. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group

6. CM: John McGinn
The poster boy of Scottish football, the ex-Hibs star has moulded himself into one of the first names on Clarke's teamsheet over the last six years. Now capped 79 times by his country. Helped Aston Villa win promotion to the English Premier League shortly before this game in 2019, and has remained with the Midlands side ever since. He captained the side to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group

7. CM: Callum McGregor
Retired from international duty in the summer of 2024 in order to concentrate on his club football with Celtic. One of the Hoops' most decorated players, the loss of McGregor has largely been negated by the emergence of Billy Gilmour. Scored Scotland's first major tournament goal in over 23 years when he scored in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia at Euro 2020. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group

8. CM: Kenny McLean
A veteran of the Clarke era, the midfielder has been regular in the Scotland squad ever since his arrival. Will likely always be remembered for his vital last-minute winner against Norway during the Euro 2025 qualifying phase. Still plays in the EFL Championship with Norwich. | PA Photo: PA
