Scotland talent sends Pocognoli reminder as teammate caught in fiery clash that sees ex-Chelsea man sent off
Scotland internationals pick up important midweek results.
Scotland international Robbie Ure sent head coach Sebstien Pocognoli a timely reminder of his goalscoring talents, scoring his second in four games as Sevilla beat Sporting Hortaleza 3-0 in the Copa Del Rey on Thursday night.
Ure netted the opening goal as the visitors avoided a potential banana skin in the first round of the competition against the sixth-tier amateur outfit, who were forced to move the game to the Estadio Municipal Virgen del Val, 22 miles northeast of Madrid, with Sporting Hortaleza's 400-capacity home ground failing to meet RFEF stadium requirements.

The 22-year-old former Rangers academy talent will hope to be named in Scotland’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Switzerland and North Macedonia next week, and he did himself no harm when he planted a perfect header home from Alfon Gonzalez’s right-wing cross just 24 minutes in.
His second strike for the Spanish club since his £7.5million move from IK Sirius in August, he scored his first La Liga goal in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Levante earlier this month. Sevilla added a second when Peque Fernandez scored from the spot five minutes before half-time, before Switzerland international Ruben Vargas put the tie to bed just before the hour mark.
Meanwhile, Ure’s international teammate Angus Gunn helped San Jose Earthquakes clinch their first home MLS playoff game at their new stadium, PayPal Park, in a bad-tempered 2-2 draw with Colorado Rapids that saw both sides end the game with 10 men.
While the result extended their winless run to five league games, it meant they can’t drop any lower than sixth place in the MLS Western Conference, guaranteeing a spot in the end of season tournament for the first time since their 18,000-seater stadium opened in 2015.
Taking the lead through centre-back Reid Roberts after just 15 minutes, however, they were pegged back shortly afterwards when former Rangers target Morgan Whittaker fired beyond Gunn from close range just before the half-hour mark. The score stayed like that until a madcap four-minute period flipped the game on its head.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur winger Timo Werner was shown a red card for dissent. The Germany international missed a golden opportunity to put his side ahead just seconds earlier, and was embroiled in a heated discussion with referee Ramy Touchan shortly afterwards, with the conversation prompting a straight red card for foul language or abusive behaviour.
Darren Yapi then put the away side ahead when his vicious drive beat Gunn at the near post just two minutes later, only for Colorado to have Kosi Thompson sent off on 75 minutes after denying Preston Judd a clear goalscoring opportunity. Jack Jasinski levelled the score in the 82nd minute, heading home from a corner to rescue a late point for the hosts. The result keeps San Jose in fifth place in the Western Conference division, with just two games to go in the regular season before the MLS Cup Playoff begins in mid-November.
