Hibs next manager search spanning Europe as multiple candidates emerge from different countries

Foreign appointment possible as Easter Road chiefs cast net far and wide

Hibs are scouring the UK and Europe in their search for a new manager with multiple candidates across different countries linked with the Easter Road vacancy over the past 24 hours.

The club have been credited with a major interest in Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley with reports in Ireland naming the 41-year-old as a "leading candidate" to succeed David Gray, who was sacked by Hibs last week after a difficult start to the season.

Bradley has taken Shamrock into the UEFA Conference League groups on three separate occasions as well as dominating domestically, winning five league titles and two FAI Cups.

Rovers are currently locked in a three-way battle to retain the Irish title. There are just five games of the season remaining – and it may be difficult to prise Bradley away from the club in the circumstances.

Hibs have also been linked with Danish great Jon Dahl Tomasson, most recently sacked as Sweden boss, with former player-turned-pundit Andy Halliday insisting that the Easter Road club “want” the ex-AC Milan star as manager.

Ex Rangers and Hearts midfielder Halliday told the Open Goal podcast that Hibs had already made contact, revealing: "Hibs want him is what I've heard, and there have been chats. Whether that leads him to getting the job, I don't know.

“We played his Blackburn Rovers team in pre-season when I was with Hearts in Marbella, and we couldn't get the ball off them. Honestly."

The Edinburgh Evening News has claimed that both German coach Michel Kniat and Finnish tactician Vesa Vasara are also under consideration.

Kniat saw his three-year stint as manager of Arminia Bielefeld ended by mutual consent at the end of last season while Inter Turku boss Vasa is currently locked in a tight title race at the top of Finland’s Veikkausliga.

Another name linked with the Easter Road vacancy is Marink Reedijk. The 34-year-old Dutchman guided Beveren back to the Belgian top flight in an unbeaten promotion-winning season only to quit his role in the summer in search of a new challenge.

Hibs are keen to appoint a new manager during the international break with the squad set to travel to Spain on Saturday for a warm-weather training camp. Interim head coach John Potter remains in charge for the time being after overseeing the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Saturday.
