It has rumbled on a little throughout the summer, but Celtic finally agreed to sell key midfielder Arne Engels to West Ham United in a deal worth £22million.
Last weekend’s departure of Engels made the Belgium international one of the club’s biggest transfer sales of all time. Bought for a record fee of £11million on September deadline day 2024 from Augsburg, the 22-year-old played a major role in Celtic’s last two title wins before the club doubled their profit on the young playmaker.
Confirmed as a Hammers player in the aftermath of the club’s 4-0 win over Dundee United in the Premier Sports Cup, the club are now looking to press on with a replacement, with Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis reportedly a key target for manager Martin O’Neill - but looking at outgoing, where would Engels place on the list of Celtic’s most expensive player sales ever?
