Another world rankings jump at start of 2026 for Bob MacIntyre

Scot up to fifth in global standings after jumping two spots in first two tournaments this year

Bob MacIntyre has jumped to fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking after starting his 2026 campaign sitting seventh in the global standings.

The Oban man moved up to sixth on the back of finishing joint-fourth behind Genesis Scottish Open champion Chris Gotterup in the Sony Open in Hawaii last weekend.

He has now jumped up another place after ending up joint-38th in The American Express, won by world No 1 Scottie Scheffler at La Quinta in California on Sunday.

It means that MacIntyre only has Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley ahead of him in the standings.

The Scot broke into the top ten for the first time after finishing second behind Scheffler in last year’s BMW Championship, one of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Play-Off events.

It’s a tall order for MacIntyre to climb all the way to the top of the ladder, especially with Scheffler looking as though he can stay as No 1 for as long as he wants.

Even career grand slam winner McIlroy has his work cut out to regain top spot from the American, who has an impressive average points of 16.9591 compared to the Northern Irishman’s 8.5633.

Scot is now taking a break back home

However, MacIntyre (4.6032) isn’t too far behind Henley (4.8363) when it comes to average points and Fleetwood (5.2422) as well for that matter.

Sandy Lyle and Colin Montgomerie both reached a career-high second place in the world rankings at the peak of their careers.

MacIntyre is now taking a break back in Scotland before starting his build up to The Players Championship and then The Masters.
