Seaweed from the shores of the Outer Hebrides will be helping ease the muscle aches and calm the nerves of athletes and golf pros in Scotland this summer.

ishga, the Hebridean seaweed-formula skincare line from the Isle of Lewis is proud to announce it is an official partner for Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games this year and is also an official supplier for the AIG Women’s Open.

The company’s very first spa partnership for its products was at Kimpton Blythswood Square, and with the games taking place in Glasgow, it means a welcome return to the city.

For more than a decade ishga’s founders and staff have been perfecting methods of extracting miraculous minerals from seaweed harvested on Stornoway’s beaches on the Isle of Lewis.

It creates a range of anti-oxidants, serums and creams with products for the face, body and home fragrances, formulated to hydrate, firm and heal and all are 100% sourced, formulated, manufactured, bottled and packed on Stornoway.

Treating Team Scotland

Rooted in nature, resilience and results-driven formulas, ishga’s values closely align with those of Team Scotland. ishga will be there to support the athletes as they step onto the global stage, helping to support their recovery and wellbeing before and after the Games so they can feel their best and perform at the highest level.

ishga Co-founder Leon Trayling said partnering with Team Scotland felt like a natural fit: “We share the same values of performance and resilience in our skincare. Our results-driven organic skincare is all about supporting wellbeing and recovery, so it’s a privilege to help athletes feel prepared, confident and connected to Scotland as they compete on the international stage.”

Athletes will be offered a massage treatment using ishga’s Muscle Recovery Oil. They’ll be able to sample the products and try them out at the Team Camp kitting out day, and at the end of the games ishga will gift a pack of products to every Team Scotland athlete for them to take away and enjoy in their post-competition recovery.

AIG Women’s Open

This year’s AIG Women’s Open takes place at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s in August and ishga will be there for every play of the ball, providing treatments for competitors in the Player’s Lounge and sound app relaxation beds.

The ishga Sound app has been created for use by anyone and is a free downloadable app of bespoke sounds with four options – to energise, balance, relax or help you feel connected. The sounds have been recorded around the shores of the Hebrides. Players will be invited to relax to these soothing seascape sounds as well as receiving treatments using ishga products.

ishga is also at the Official Shop and Champion’s Club on site at the Open for visitors to discover more about the products and purchase them. They are also involved in a treasure hunt for kids featuring Little ishga Marine Cream as prizes.

Another corporate connection for ishga is that it is once again working with Mastercard at the Open, to support their Priceless Planet Coalition to support their mission to restore 100 million trees.

Sporting recovery for all

With Scotland’s football team across the Atlantic and the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow, there will be plenty of action for proud Scots to get behind this summer. But whether you love watching sport, playing, or both, ishga’s products could help you with recovery, relaxation and wellbeing.

Here’s a look at some of the products that they will be using with athletes and golf professionals this summer, which you could try out in any spas which use ishga products, or buy yourself for a home spa treatment.

Muscle Recovery Oil - ishga’s Muscle Recovery Oil was created with active bodies in mind, combining its antioxidant-rich Hebridean seaweed extract with carefully chosen essential oils such as eucalyptus and peppermint to help ease tension, support tired muscles and turn recovery into a calming ritual. For athletes and anyone with an active lifestyle, it’s a beautiful way to care for the body after training or competition, helping you to feel restored, rebalanced and ready to go again.

Massage can be incredibly beneficial for both body and mind, especially around training and recovery. Physically, it can help ease muscle tension, support circulation and encourage the body to relax after exertion, while mentally it creates a moment to pause, reset and reduce stress. For athletes, that balance of recovery and calm is so important, it’s not just about performance, but looking after the whole person.

Seaweed Bath – Seaweed baths are a popular spa treatment which offers a number of benefits – and after any sporting activity nothing can beat a lovely soak in the bath to ease the muscles. You can create the same effects easily at home with ishga’s seaweed bath product. As the skin absorbs the powerful compounds it re-mineralises the body and hydrates both your skin and hair. The ishga Seaweed Bath is formulated to soothe away aches and pains and may also help with skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne.

Invigorating Bath Salts – This treatment is designed to restore and relax both mind and body. The mix of sea salt granules and essential oils mean you can create a home spa experience in an instant. The bath salts feature 60 naturally occurring trace elements to soothe aches, pains and tired limbs, and have been developed with a beautiful blend of lemongrass, lavender, and juniper berry essential oils. Ideal for a relaxing soak any time of the day, the bath salts offer a post-workout solution to stiff, sore muscles to aid recovery.

ishga Sound app - The free ishga sound experience can be downloaded wherever you get your apps on iOS and Android. Transport yourself to the serene sounds of the Hebrides with a bespoke experience, tailored to you every time. The app can help create the mood and feeling you need, be it uplifted and invigorated, connected and balanced, inspired and reset, or sleepy and relaxed and of course, it’s the perfect accompaniment to any of the ishga products.

ishga has used field recordings, traditional instruments and therapeutic sound techniques to create stimulating or relaxing sounds. Click the link here to discover how to make the most of the app.
