Edinburgh is the most-visited city in Scotland, with over five million people spending at least one night in the city last year.
It can be a challenge to bag a hotel room at the quietest of times, but this task becomes close to impossible during festival season in August.
Add numerous huge gigs at Ingliston and Murrayfield - as well as the city’s busy international airport - and it’s clear that there’s a huge market for hotels.
Luckily developers are on the case, with a host of new developments planned - from tiny boutiques to huge ecoresorts.
Website www.Skyscrapercity.com keeps on top of things, thanks to the sterling continuing work of contributor Kenspeckle, and lists numerous hotels set to spring up across the city.
Here’s where 20 of the planned hotels will be built, what they will look like, whether planning permission has been approved and when they will be built.
