West Lothian singer Susan Boyle named one of UK's 'all-time greats' by Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet
West Lothian star Susan Boyle has been named among a Hollywood actor’s ‘all-time greats’.
When asked by the BBC which Brits he considered to be ‘all-time greats’, actor Timothée Chalamet reeled off famous names such as Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and the Beckhams.
But the final Brit to be named one of the 29-year-old’s all-time greats was perhaps the most surprising of all - Susan Boyle.
Referring to her famous auditon for Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, which saw her perform a moving rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, the Marty Supreme star said: "Susan Boyle. She dreamt bigger than all of us. Who wasn't moved by that?
“I remember that like it was yesterday. That was like the advent of YouTube, you know."

The video of the audition had been viewed more than 66 million times on YouTube within a week in 2009 - setting an online record. It would go on to be named the most viewed YouTube video of the year, with more than 120 million views.
Following her performance, Boyle finished as runner-up on Britain’s Got Talent but became an international star. Her album, I Dreamed A Dream, was recognised as the fastest selling UK debut album of all time selling 411,820 copies. She performed for the Pope in 2010 and was named by Time magazine as the seventh most influential person in the world.
In the years since she has gone on to release seven albums and toured globally but, despite her fame, she continues to live in her family home in Blackburn, West Lothian. Boyle had a minor stroke in 2022.
Chalamet, the star of Dune and A Complete Unknown, is currently promoting new movie Marty Supreme and has been presenting jackets bearing the film's title to people he deems as being a great. It appears SuBo could have been one of the Brits to collect a jacket.
Chalamet’s new movie is a semi-fictionalised biography of table tennis player Marty Reisman and his performance has seen him tipped for a number of wins this award season - including at both the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. The race for the best Actor award at next March’s Oscars could also be between him and Leonardo DiCaprio.
