Edinburgh Zoo welcomes trio of energetic female king penguins for first time in decade
The trio of female penguins have now been introduced to the four male penguins.
A trio of energetic female king penguins have joined the colony at Edinburgh Zoo for the first time in more than a decade.

Constance, Maude and Alma arrived at the zoo from Rotterdam Zoo in early January, when they were quarantined as part of normal biosecurity protocols. But the cheeky trio have now joined the rest of the colony at Penguins Rock, where they were introduced to Major General Sir Nils Olav - one of the zoo’s four male king penguins and the world’s highest ranking animal.
Keepers at the zoo said the three penguins’ personalities were already starting to shine through, with three-year-old Maude having been described as ‘particularly feisty and energetic’.

She, along with Constance and Alma, who are both two years old, also met the other three male penguins Alfie, Kongo and Bow.
Visitors to the zoo can now see the new arrivals, alongside a colony of more than 100 gentoo and northern rockhopper peguins, at Penguin Rock. To book tickets, visit edinburghzoo.org.uk/tickets
