SERCO has confirmed the appointment of Aberdeen-born Peter Strachan as managing director of the 15-year Caledonian Sleeper franchise, as The Scotsman revealed on Saturday.

The veteran railman moves from Australia, where he headed two Serco rail bids, in preparation for the firm taking over the Scotland-London overnight train service from FirstGroup next April.

He said: “As a Scot, it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to lead the transformation of our iconic Sleeper service.

“I look forward to working with the team to deliver a guest experience that embodies the best Scotland has to offer.”

Serco transport MD David Stretch said: “Peter brings a wealth of executive leadership and experience to our transport business.”
