First Scottish flights to 'Gateway to the Arctic' Tromsø to see Northern Lights taking off from Edinburgh and Glasgow
Easyjet announcement followed by Norwegian launching service from Glasgow
Scotland’s first flights to a Norwegian city considered among the best places to see the Northern Lights have been announced by its largest airline.
Easyjet said on June 25 it would launch twice-weekly services between Edinburgh and Tromsø - known as the Gateway to the Arctic - from November.

The flights to near the northern tip of Norway will operate on Mondays and Thursdays from November 30
Norwegian announced on July 9 it would start flights between Glasgow and Tromsø on Mondays and Fridays from December 11 until March 22 - the airport’s first Scandinavian route for 15 years.
Easyjet also announced twice-weekly Christmas flights between Glasgow and Krakow in Poland on Mondays and Fridays from November 13., on a route already operated by Ryanair and Jet2.
Easyjet has ten aircraft based at Edinburgh and seven at Glasgow and a total of 102 routes at the two airports with the latest additions.
Stephanie Wear, chief commercial officer at Edinburgh Airport, said: “Tromsø is the perfect gateway to one of Europe’s most magical cold-weather destinations, and it’s great to see Easyjet working with us to add it to their schedule at Scotland's busiest airport.

“Whether it’s chasing the Northern Lights, taking in incredible Arctic scenery or enjoying a true winter adventure, this new service gives our passengers even more reasons to travel, and we're sure it will prove popular with those looking for something a little different.”
Easyjet UK manager Kevin Doyle said: “We are thrilled to be offering the first direct connection between Scotland and Tromsø.
“This is a statement of our commitment to giving customers more choice from their local airport and we look forward to welcoming even more customers on board for their winter holidays.”

Chris Tibbett, executive director - commercial aviation and marketing at AGS Airports, which includes Glasgow Airport, said: “It’s fantastic to see Easyjet continuing to grow its presence at Glasgow on its new seventh based aircraft from August.
“This latest expansion underlines the airline’s long-term commitment to the airport and is unlocks even more choice for customers this winter.
“Festive city breaks remain hugely popular, with central and eastern Europe growing in popularity.
“This new flight to Krakow builds on Easyjet's strong choice of routes to European cities.”
