Road policing sergeant Steve Milne has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

He said: “It is vital that we piece together what has happened. Witness accounts are key to this and a full investigation into the circumstances is now under way.”

The road was closed for about five hours and diversions were put in place as accident investigators attended the scene.

Earlier, in Aberdeen, a motorist was seriously hurt when his car left the road.

Wellington Road was shut following the accident at around 7.25pm yesterday.
