Edinburgh Waverley passengers face morning chaos amid 'loss of power' as trains delayed and cancelled

Trains were delayed this morning (July 15) due to a loss of power in the overhead lines.

Train passengers at Edinburgh Waverley station are facing major delays and cancellations this morning following an electrical issue.

Services running to and from the city centre station have been delayed due to an “loss of power to the overhead wires”, according to Network Rail Scotland.

ScotRail said in an update to customers: “Train services running through this station will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Disruption is expected to last until around 11:00 today (15 July).”

Network Rail Scotland has since confirmed that power has been restored to Edinburgh Waverley, meaning services can run again.

However, commuters have been warned that there may be some “short-term disruption” until the timetable returns to normal.

Issues at Edinburgh Waverley comes after bus and tram transport in the city were also affected by the fire to a building on Princes Street last week.

The fire has led to the partial closure of Princes Street, which is expected to last until at least next month.

This lead to bus diversions and subsequent congestion on Edinburgh’s roads, as well as one of half the entire tram network - from Princes Street to Newhaven - remaining out of service.
